Shalom! If you’re a new reader, welcome to the Beatitudes Missions blog!
Over the coming months this blog will follow the travels and adventures of the 2017 Emmaus Immersion program, a four-month program of 8 missionary pilgrims who have given this time to the Lord. Following our month of formation and campus missions in the U.S., we are bound for the Holy Land, to visit, learn, and work in His own homeland. Our goal is to share some of our experiences with you each week or two... sorry we're running late!
On Sunday afternoon we all arrived at the Community of the Beatitudes' house in Denver, CO. The foundation for our journey towards Israel has begun! We started with a mini-retreat in the mountains to truly enter into a spirit of prayer and community.
After leaving the prayer cabins we travelled to Denver for formation to prepare us for our mission here in the U.S. and in Israel. At the Community’s house in Denver, life follows a beautiful schedule of prayer, work, service, and community, and it has been such a grace to begin to fall into that rhythm!
On Friday night, we celebrated our first Shabbat. The Community hosts Shabbat dinners as a way to honor and pray for our Jewish brothers and sisters, and to better understand Christ's life during his time on Earth. We shared a meal, sang, and practiced some Israeli dances together. It was so beautiful to experience Jewish culture in this way, and to spend this time growing as a community!
Unfortunately, our time here with the Community in Denver has come to a close. On Sunday, we departed on a journey across the U.S. We will spend the next three weeks on mission to several college campuses, sharing the beauty of the liturgy and witnessing to the students we encounter, ending in Chicago for our flight to Israel! Please pray for us and the students we'll meet.
